Cookie decorations

Last time the spouse group got together, someone showed us how to decorate sugar cookies. Now I have done that in the past by just spreading on some icing. This time, we upped the game.  The JOY cookie was iced in white and then colored in with edible markers. I didn't even know there was such a thing! New possibilities. One gal drew stick figures of her family-so cute.

I need to work on my polka dots, but I love adding the little white balls for the flocked stocking.

This one uses a doodling effect to color in the cookie with a few sprinkles on top. Icing acted like the glue to hold the cinnamon candies.

I also made a Christmas tree....had to eat it before I got home.

Now let me show you what I worked on yesterday!

I wanted to use the royal icing in a plastic squirt bottle. It was way too thick. So I had to keep thinning it. The kitchen was a huge mess!

Finally I just started spreading the icing on the cookie.
Besides snowflakes, I also made a batch of Santas.

One cool thing I did learn was to use the scraps from the first cutting with little cookie cutters. I happened to have this little biscuit cutter. Because you know that first batch of rolled cookie dough is the best. So these little cookies are a great idea.

I still have a ton of icing left,  and I made the "half" batch. Wow.

The blog that looked at for the recipes is exquisite. http://www.sweetsugarbelle.com/blog/2011/11/baking-the-perfect-sugar-cookie/ I probably shouldn't try to copy a master when I am so inexperienced with pretty cookies.
The cookie recipe is definitely a winner & I'll use it again. I'll probably go with a corn syrup icing next time to decorate like I did on the cookies that were done up top with the ladies group.
